My daughter is now twelve
but I have a story
from when she was three
that might embarrass her
but probably not
this is the girl after all
who at nine told me
“I hear you, but I’m ignoring you.”
(Practicing for her teen years.)

So, after a long winter
spring finally arrived
we went for a walk.
She couldn’t stop looking around:
“Look, Daddy, pretty flower!”
“Daddy, Daddy, butterflies!”
I’m glad she’s so excited
“A little birdie!”
I start to dream about
camping trips and other…
Stomp! Stomp! Stomp!”
Hey, where’re you going?!
“I wanna kick it!”
