I just stumbled across "MathGate" the other day through Carr's Twitter and figured it was more pedants being pedantic than anything else, so the summary of what has been going on was useful.

One observation I'll make about Young's analysis is while the "anti-SJWers" might or might be more on "correct side" of this particular issue, at some point they really should wonder why in these various social justice clash-points their fellow travelers (if not themselves) are so often the most virulent racists, misogynists, and homophobes. It's more than unfortunate, it's pretty much the entire point that not that far under the surface of almost any defense against any critique of the status quo are these dynamics.
