Given the way the Democrats are going, Bernie could very well get the nomination. I don’t think he will, but he could. And then he will get beaten like a cheap pinata in the General Election by Trump. Here’s why:

  1. Democrats are politely not mentioning it, but Republicans will be plastering it on the side of buildings in neon colors that Bernie had a heart attack. You think Trump being 73, shaped like a flabby bowling pin, and on a cheeseburger diet is going to stop the Republicans from playing this up?
  2. More importantly, elections are about turn-out, not fundamental appeal. Bernie’s most passionate supporters are historically the absolutely shittiest at actually showing up to vote.
  3. There are a couple more reasons, but these are the two biggest.
