I was in Santa Barbara when Michael Huffington ran for Congress in 1992. All his campaign literature had Arianna playing the demure, dutiful wife and mother to their two daughter. It came through the grapevine that he was gay and didn’t actually give a shit about politics and it was all Arianna’s ambition. And he beat out an long-time incumbent who had actually been pretty good for the district all due to slick advertising. That was a life lesson.
